Good nutrition is vital for women’s health, especially during the reproductive years. Yet across many low- and middle-income settings, women continue to face diets that are limited in variety and low in essential nutrients such as iron, folate, vitamin A, vitamin B-complex, zinc, and iodine.
MoMS is working to understand the nutritional challenges women face and generate evidence for better solutions.
MoMS brings together nutrition research, community perspectives, clinical research and health-system insights to inform better interventions for women and children.

Investigate maternal nutrition challenges affecting women in Bungoma County.

Assess women's experiences and acceptance of micronutrient supplements.

Evaluate enhanced micronutrient supplements during pregnancy.

Monitor birth outcomes and infant health after delivery.

Analyse study findings to establish evidence on maternal nutrition.

Translate research findings into improved policies and healthcare practices.
Assessing household access to nutritious food, dietary variety across core food groups, and baseline maternal intake of essential daily micronutrients (iron, folate, zinc, B-complex, and vitamin A).
Investigating individual, social, behavioral, and logistical drivers influencing consistent daily consumption of iron, folic acid, and multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) during pregnancy.
Identifying systemic barriers and integration opportunities within Antenatal Care (ANC) service delivery platforms, health worker counseling capacities, and supply chain logistics.
Evaluating physiological health metrics, anaemia prevalence reduction, maternal hemoglobin levels, and broader neonatal and infant wellness indicators following supplementation.
Generating Bungoma-specific evidence on women’s nutrition and health.
Key deficiencies in diets and micronutrient intake.
Understanding what influences iron and folic acid use in pregnancy.
Barriers and opportunities in ANC service delivery.
Evidence to strengthen the MoMS trial.
Supporting better nutrition action at community, county and national levels.
